Setting up your website template:

Step 1:
EDIT FLASH ANIMATION: | Click for more details
Open the "flash.txt" file and edit the text that follows "logo=". This will update the Flash logo on all pages. Be sure not to delete the "logo=". Change the text following the 3 "&line1=" to add your 3 slogans. If you wish to use a graphic logo, there are instructions later in this document.

Step 2:
EDIT COPYRIGHT: | Click for more details
Open the "copyright.js" file in Notepad or any plain text editor, and change the "Your Company" text with your company or website name. This will update the footer on all pages. Edit all ".js" files with a text editor.

Step 3:
EDIT CONTACT INFO: | Click for more details
Open the "contact.js" file with Notepad or any text editor, and change the company name, address, phone and fax numbers and e-mail address (Edit the e-mail in 2 places). This will update contact info on the "contact" page. This is done this way so search engines can't find your e-mail. You'll receive less spam.

Step 4:
SETUP THE CONTACT FORM FORM:

Click for current info on setting up the template forms.

Click for info on adding more fields to the forms.

Click for changing form sizes or colors.

If you want to use only e-mail on the contact page you can remove the contact form from the "contact.htm" between the comment tags.

Step 5: | Click for more details
SETUP THE ordering.html OR OPTIONAL-NOLINKED-quotes.htm FORM:

OPTION #1 If you DO want to use the default setup with the gallery pages linked to the "ordering.html" and do not want to use the Paypal gallery option.
  1. Move the "OPTIONAL-NOLINKED-quotes.htm" into the extras folder.
  2. Move the 3 "PAYPAL-catalog?.htm" pages into the extras folder.
  3. Setup the "ordering.html" form as shown in "Step #4" on this page.
  4. Edit the "thanks-order.htm" with your details. This is the page a client is directed to after an order is placed.
  5. Edit the "item_price" and the "item_name" in each form in each "catalog?.htm" page. Click here for details.
OPTION #2a If you want to setup the quotes form, but DO NOT want to use it for orders linked from the gallery pages:
  1. Move the "ordering.html" into the extras folder.
  2. Rename the "OPTIONAL-NOLINKED-quotes.htm" to "quotes.htm".
  3. Add a link to the "quotes.htm" in the "menu.js".
  4. Setup the "quotes.htm" form as shown in "Step #4" on this page.

OPTION #2b If you are using the Paypal gallery option in this template:
  1. Move the "ordering.html" into the extras folder.
  2. Move the 3 "catalog?.htm" pages into the extras folder.
  3. Rename the 3 "PAYPAL-catalog?.htm" pages maintaining their respective catalog numbers. For example, rename "PAYPAL-catalog1.htm" to "catalog1.htm".
  4. See Paypal setup below on this page.
Because of the complexity of setting up the quote form, there are notes in the "quotes.htm" to help you cut and paste to add new form fields. The form will work with most contact form scripts however you will need help files or a sample form from the script you intend to use. Most form elements work the same way from script to script, however the hidden values usually vary. You may want to consider editing the entire page in Notepad instead of a wysiwyg editor.

For secure form setup, or to have no price included, or to see how the catalog, "ordering.html" and "payment.htm" pages are setup to work see the catalog order form support page.

Step 6:
SETUP THE PAYMENT PAGE:
This template includes a "payment.htm" page called "payment.htm". Find and replace "paypal@your-web-domain.com" in this page with your Paypal e-mail. Find and replace "your-web-domain.com" in the "http://your-web-domain.com/thanks-payment.htm" in the "return" line in this page with your site domain to setup the "return after payment" page. Edit the "thanks-payment.htm".

After an order is placed through the catalog you can send your clients and invoice and a link to the "payment.htm" so they can submit payments.

Step 7:
REPLACE THE CATALOG PICTURES: | Click for more details
The best way to setup the pictures in the catalog is not to edit the HTML pages and change the pictures on each individual page. The fastest way is to simply replace the pictures in the "catalog" folder with your own by overwriting the files that are in there now and using the same generic .jpg names.

In the "catalog" folder, replace the 18 "Fcatalog" pictures with full size photos. Replace the 18 "catalog" pictures with your thumbnails. The thumbnails are now 130 x 87 pixels and full size images are 500 x 333 pixels but you can make them any size that you prefer. There is info on the other pictures at this site later in this document.

POP UP WINDOW OPTIONS: | Click for more details
This template includes options for the gallery pop-up windows. To change these options, open your "pop-closeup.js" in Notepad and put a "yes" or "no" (all lowercase) for the options you want to change. You can also change the height and width variables as well as make the gallery popups of full browser windows. See the notes in the "pop-closeup.js" for details.

Step 8:
EDIT PAGES: | Software choices | Notepad Editing
Edit the text on all pages with your website information. You can use EW, Frontpage, Dreamweaver, GoLive, any wysiwyg HTML editor or a text editor like Notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text.

Step 9:
EDIT TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS: | Click for more details
Open each of the HTML pages and change the titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords with your product or service info. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the "" so you don't disturb the html code. Page titles are important so your site will get a good listing at Google or MSN and other search engines. Click for optimization help.

Step 10:
UPLOAD: | Click for more details
Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software or Windows Explorer or your control panel. Be sure to upload the "picts" and "catalog" folders and all files in these folders.

Options:

USING A GRAPHIC LOGO:
You can replace the Flash logo with a graphic logo. To do this, delete or rename the "header.js", then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js". In the picts folder you will find a graphic called "logo.jpg". Edit this graphic with your logo. The "logo.jpg" is now 400 x 75 pixels.

FONTS: | Click for more details
You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "coolstyle.css" with a text editor. Edit the "TABLE" px size to change the copy fonts on all pages. Change the "title" px size to change all the title sizes.

MENU EDITING: | Click for more details
You can change the names on the menu buttons like "About" or "Home" to other page names by editing the "menu.js". If you are editing only the name showing on the menu, edit only the name and not the name with the ".htm" after it unless you want the page link to change. Whatever you change in any of the menus will update every page on the website. You can add more links to pages by copying a button in one of the menu files and pasting it right below itself. Be sure to back up your files before you edit them. Click for more menu details. This template includes 2 menus you can edit.

menu.js
menu-tabs.js

PICTURES: | Click for more details
You can replace the pictures with your own. You can use any size picture you want and the pages will size them to fit automatically. Each page has it's pictures named according to the page it's on. You will find all pictures in the "picts" folder and all the catalog pictures in the catalog folder.

ADDING PAGES: | Click for more details | Add a Gallery
You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or even add the page to the menu by opening the menu.js and copying and pasting one of the buttons below another.

PAGE HEIGHTS:
So all your pages will maintain a standard height a "pageheight" class is included in the "coolstyle.css". Edit this height to any height you need.

THE CATALOG SITE MAP PAGE:
The "catalog.htm" is linked from the "index.html". It is best not to remove this link so search engines can find your site map and properly list all your pages when users search at search engines. If you add new pages to your website you should add links in the "catalog.htm".

THE OPTIONAL QUOTES PAGE:
A page named "OPTIONAL-NOLINKED-quotes.htm" is included in this download. This page is in case you do not want to use the linked catalog pages. You would rename this to "quotes.htm" and add a link in your "menu.js" to this page. Then setup this form as indicated in step #4 above on this page. This page can be used to gather any type of website information.

PAYPAL SETUP
SETUP PAYPAL PAGES INSTEAD OF THE ORDER PAGE:
| Click for more details
This template includes optional Paypal "single order" pages for purchasing one item at a time through Paypal. These are not shopping cart pages, they are single item order forms. If you do not want to use the default "ordering.html" for checkout, and would rather use Paypal forms:
  1. Setup a Paypal merchant account.

  2. Above on this page do the steps in "OPTION #2b" in step #5.

  3. In each newly renamed Paypal "catalog?.htm" page replace the info for each form with your Paypal form info. In each form edit the business e-mail, the item name and the item price. For a quick edit, you can open a catalog page in Notepad and search and replace "paypal@your-web-domain.com" with your Paypal e-mail. There is a thank you page included. In each form edit the "return" URL with your web domain URL so the return page will display after a payment is completed. Click for form setup details.

  4. In each form edit the shipping price. Click for more shipping options.

  5. If you want to convert the single order forms to a cart, check the "developers area" or "merchant services" in your Paypal account.
