Setting up your website template: Step 1: EDIT FLASH ANIMATION: | Click for more help Open the "flash.txt" file and edit "Your" with the first part of your logo. Be sure not to delete the "logo1=". Then edit the "&logo2=Sitetitle" with the second part of your logo. If you don't have two parts to your title, simply leave the area after "logo1=" or "&logo2=" blank. Then edit the "Optional phrase can go here..." to whatever phrase you would like to use, or you can leave this blank. Be sure not to delete the "&slogan=". This will update the Flash logo on all pages. Use spaces to line up the words how you would like them. You can edit the six "&textlines" with whatever words you want to show up on your page. This will change the Flash logo on all pages. If you wish to use a graphic logo, there are instructions later in this document. Step 2: EDIT COPYRIGHT: | Click for more help Open the "copyright.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the "Your Company" line with your name or company name. This will update the footer info on all pages. Step 3: EDIT CONTACT INFO: | Click for more help Open the "contact.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the company name, address, phone and fax numbers and e-mail address (in 2 places). This will change contact info on the "contact" page. This is done this way so search engines won't see your e-mail and you'll get less spam. Step 4: EDIT THE CONTACT FORM: Click for current info on setting up the template forms. Click for info on adding more fields to the forms. Click for changing form sizes or colors. If you want to use only e-mail on the contact page you can remove the contact form from the "contact.htm" between the comment tags. Step 5: REPLACE THE FLASH CHANGER IMAGES (OPTIONAL): | Click for more details The Flash image changer on the homepage (index.html) is showing 8 .jpg images. You can replace these images in the "flash" folder with your own 750 wide x 100 pixel high .jpg images. In the "flash" folder is a file called "image_changer.xml". This file is the changer setup file. Edit this .xml file in Notepad to change how the changer works. You can also add more images to the changer. Click for details. Step 6: EDIT PAGES: | Software choices | Notepad Editing Edit the text on all pages with your information. You can use MS Expression, Frontpage, Dreamweaver, GoLive, any wysiwyg HTML editor or a text editor like Notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text. Step 7: EDIT TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS: | Click for more details Open each of the pages and change the titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords to match your product or service. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the "" so you don't disturb the html code. Page titles are important so your site will get a good listing at Google or MSN and other search engines. Step 8: UPLOAD: | Click for more details Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software or Windows Explorer or your control panel. Be sure to upload the "picts" and "flash" folders and all files in these folders. Options: USING A GRAPHIC LOGO: You can replace the Flash logo with a graphic logo. To do this, delete or rename the "header.js" and the "header_index.js", then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js" and the "graphic_logo_header_index.js" to "header_index.js". In the picts folder you will find a graphic called "logo.jpg" and a graphic called "logo_index.jpg". Edit these two graphics with your logo. It's best to keep the graphics the same sizes that they are now unless you edit the height and width numbers in the new "header.js" and "header_index.js". HOMEPAGE SOUND: The index.html on this template has a background sound named "home-sound.mp3". You can replace this sound with another file named "home-sound.mp3", or by creating a .wav, .mid or .mp3 file and putting your newly created sound file in this website folder. Then, edit the index.html and change the code following the "START SOUND CODE, DELETE TO REMOVE" notes in the index.html. Replace "home-sound.mp3" in 2 places. To remove the homepage sound delete between the notes in the index.html. FONTS: | Click for more help You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "coolstyle.css" with a text editor. You can find other font colors by clicking here. You can also change the font sizes in the "coolstyle.css" file. Change the "TABLE" px size to change the copy on all pages. Change the "title" px size to change all the title sizes. COLORS: | Click for more help Most colors can be changed on this template by editing the "coolstyle.css" with a text editor. CHANGING LINKS / ADDING TO THE MENU: | Click for more details You can change the names of the links like "about" or "services" to other page names by editing the "menu.js". Whatever you change in the menu.js will change every page on the website. Keep the names short so they don't go outside the menu. You can even add more pages by copying one link in the menu.js and pasting it right below the next. Be sure to back up your files before you edit them. There are notes in the menu .js files to add more links. This template includes a total of 3 menus. All these files can be edited in Notepad and may include some options. menu.js (top links) menu_lower.js (links under the 3 sidebar images) menu_pictures.js (the 3 linked sidebar images) ADDING PAGES: | Click for more help You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or on the menu. CHANGING THE GRAPHICS/PICTURES: | Click for more help You can replace the page pictures with your own. Subpage images are now 400 x 200 pixels and the sidebar and homepage thumbnails are 100 x 67 but you can use any size picture you want and the pages will size them to fit automatically. Each page has it's own picture which is named according to the page it's on. There are 3 thumbnails called "sidebar-?.jpg". The homepage banner is made up of the Flash XML changer and the "home-changer-end.jpg". You will find all pictures in the "picts" folder. PAGE HEIGHTS: So all your pages will maintain a standard height a ".pageheight" class is included in the "coolstyle.css". Edit this file in Notepad and you can change the height to any height you need. SITE MAP PAGE: The "site_map.htm" is linked from the index.html. It is best not to remove this link so search engines can find your site map and properly list all your pages when users search at major search engines. EXTRAS FOLDER FILES: The files in the extras folder are optional files. You can use any of these files as indicated elsewhere on this help page and related support pages. This folder does not need to be uploaded to your hosting area. ALT-FONT LOGO OPTION: In the "extras" folder you will find a "ALT-FONT-logo.swf" and "ALT-FONT-sublogo.swf. These are Flash header logos with a different font face. To use these, rename the .swf files in the main template folder, then copy these .swf files from the "extras" folder into the main folder and rename them to "logo.swf" and "sublogo.swf". |
